Supplements & Essential Oils for Orienteers

Used by athletes worldwide, dōTERRA essential oils and supplements are great ‘natural’ swaps for over-the-counter chemical-based products.

Containing no artificial ingredients, colours or additives, dōTERRA’s essential oils and plant-based products are becoming increasingly popular with sports people looking for more natural alternatives. They are cost-effective (you often only need a few drops), convenient and without side effects. Use them for warm ups, to help you breathe more easily and recover quicker after your race.

How do they work?

Here are some of the ways athletes use them:

Sore muscles or aches – Put a few drops of Deep Blue essential oil or Deep Blue Rub (a lotion) on the affected areas and gently massage in. Deep Blue is a ‘blend’ of Blue Chamomile, Blue Tansy, Camphor, Helichrysum, Osmanthus, Peppermint and Wintergreen oils.

Allergies – Apply a drop of Peppermint or Breathe (a ‘blend’ of laurel leaf, peppermint, eucalyptus, melaleuca, lemon, and ravensara) topically to back of neck or under nose as needed. Or use Tri-ease (a soft-gel supplement of Lavender, Lemon & Peppermint essential oils, which together act as a natural anti-histamine).

Athlete’s Foot – Apply a couple drops of Oregano and Melaleuca to the area between the toes and around toenails until the fungal infection has gone.

Blisters – Apply a few drops of Lavender, Roman Chamomile or Geranium to the blistered area a few times a day.

Chapped Skin – Apply a few drops of Myrrh, Roman Chamomile or Sandalwood to affected area.

Fatigue – Inhale or diffuse Peppermint or Rosemary essential oils. Or apply a couple of drops on temples and behind ears as needed. Or take Mito2Max (a supplement containing co-enyzmes and plant extracts for mitochondrial energy). A great alternative to energy drinks!

Inflammation – Apply a few drops of Frankincense, Deep Blue (oil or lotion) or Wintergreen to affected area.

Restlessness – Diffuse Serenity, Lavender or Ylang Ylang into the air or apply a few drops to the soles of your feet.

Sprains – Massage a few drops of Deep Blue, Wintergreen or Basil into the affected area.

Sunburn – Apply several drops of Lavender, Peppermint or Melaleuca with a carrier oil to affected area hourly as needed.
